If you’re looking for something to bring a smile to your face in these troubling times, spend an hour with Alexis Sakellaris this weekend. This Stan deserves the energy a full house will bring him. Vibrant, vivacious, with voluminous hair, Alexis’ show is a good time! What’s a Stan? Well, I didn’t know either, but now I do!
Stan, Stalker - Fan, as coined by Eminem originally had a negative connotation, but has morphed over the years to more resemble “devotee”. Alexis, in an isolating youth spent in rural Germany, became a Stan to the Divas: Celine, Mariah, Gaga, Whitney, Barbra, Beyonce . . . With the guidance of his school’s music teacher, Alexis took center stage for the first time, and you can tell he’s been there ever since! Writing his own music and singing his own story, Alexis can sing melismata with the best of them. Charming the audience is second nature. A true entertainer, Alexis has taken the tale of being a kid on the fringe and set it to music. All of us outsiders will relate to Alexis and his journey to finally find his people and his voice.
So often, solo shows dealing with childhood trauma never find joy. That is not Alexis! There is so much joy that exudes from Alexis you won’t want the show to end. Leave your angst at the door and be prepared to sing along! A testimony to finding your joy, A Stan is Born is a breath of fresh air – breath deep and enjoy!
